58% of consumers now use AI for buying decisions. Google’s AI Overviews appear in over 40% of searches. If your website isn’t optimized for AI answer engines, you’re leaving traffic on the table.
I built GetCited because I was tired of guessing.
The Problem
Traditional SEO tools tell you if you’ll rank on Google. But ranking and getting cited in AI answers are two different things.
When ChatGPT or Google’s AI Overview answers a question, they pull information from specific sources. Those sources get linked. Everyone else gets ignored.
I wanted to know: what makes a page worthy of citation?
What I Found
After analyzing 500+ AI citations across multiple search engines, patterns emerged:
- Freshness matters most. Cited content is 3x fresher than non-cited content on the same queries.
- Authoritative outbound links help. Cited pages have 50x more links to .gov and .edu sources.
- Domain authority doesn’t matter (surprisingly). The p-value was 0.72—statistically insignificant.
These findings formed the basis of GetCited.
How GetCited Works
Install the extension. Visit any page. Click the icon.
In seconds, you’ll see:
- AI Bot Crawlability — Can GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot access your content?
- Schema & Structure Audit — Is your markup AI-friendly?
- Content Quality Checks — Freshness, readability, evidence signals
- Prioritized Recommendations — Exactly what to fix, in order of impact
Every check is backed by research. No guesswork.
Why It’s Free
GetCited is 100% free. No premium tier. No upsells.
I built this because small businesses and content creators deserve the same visibility tools that enterprises have. If big companies profit from my discoveries, they should pay (via consulting). But the core tool stays free.
